High Five New Friend Weekend Warrior Friday!!

We made it to Friday! High Five!
Wait. I look a little tired in that one. Here's a better one:

I'm joining in a couple of Blog Hops today. I'm feeling very social:

So, hop along with me, and let's talk about the greatness that is Friday!

Okay, actually the great part is this weekend. I'm super psyched. Turbokick and Piyo training. Oh yeah, oh yeah...

But first, I have some questions for you:

Question 1: What was the best part of your week?
For me it was probably my workout yesterday. It was one of those magical, spiritual, "everything's okay" kind of workouts. I wrote about it a little...

Question 2: What are you looking forward to this weekend?
Two days of fitness certifications. Hanging out with energetic instructors. I hear there's some kind of game on Sunday... but I'm not really interested... (don't hate!)

And.... Go.

High Five Blog Hopping Friday (of awesomeness)!

High Five!
Don't forget to join us for the Weekend Warrior Blog Hop!

So. This week.

I had a plan. It didn't go exactly as I had hoped it would. But that's okay.

I spent most of the week dealing with The Sickness. Sniffles that turned into a full on "What is all this stuff in my head and chest?" I even took a complete day off on Tuesday and rested. The rest of the week, I didn't do much cardio. I had wanted to spend the mornings doing Turbo and Hustle, but cardio just wasn't much fun. I didn't even run. At all.

But I *did* do my strength workouts. Chest and back on Monday. Shoulders on Wednesday. Legs on Thursday. Friday will be biceps and triceps. Then on Saturday, I hope to run. Possibly.

Today marks exactly one month until my 38th birthday. I get a little weird around birthday time. Like, "How on earth has it been 20 years since I turned 18?" I mean, I didn't *feel* like we were living in the dark ages... but we didn't even have internet, cell phones (well, the only people with cell phones were the kids on "90210"), DVR (I used to record all my soaps for the week on a VHS with a timer, and watch them on the weekends. Dark ages).

Wow. Now I feel even older.

Seriously, though, I do remind myself around this time that, overall, I'm happier, healthier, and in better shape than I was at 18 (except I had fewer forehead wrinkles then...)

Who has fun plans for the weekend? We're once again planning our crazy, wild, Friday night with a Redbox movie night. I know, we're crazy....

Have a great weekend!

Lesson Learned: There is no such thing as a perfect week

So, I planned out my week of workouts, and then had to take Tuesday off completely. I was sick. I fought it as much as I could, but I finally just accepted it on Tuesday.

This got me thinking, while I will *always* stress the importance of planning (that will never change), sometimes we have to accept that there is no such thing as a perfect week.

Success comes from making good choices repeatedly. Daily. Sometimes hourly (because you know you can blow a day's worth of good eating in 30 minutes or less.) Missing one day of workouts, in the big picture, is not that big a deal.

So, now I have a couple of things to tell you about. First, if you haven't visited Awesomeday, do so today! Awesomeday is the one day of the week where every status update we post on Facebook has to be a "thing that is awesome". This makes you count your blessings and ignore the things that aren't. Anyway, there's a contest today, so head on over and check it out.

Also, I'm joining a Blog Hop today, so if you're new, I hope you'll comment below! I love friends :-)

Happy Wednesday Awesomeday!

High Five Blog Hopping Friday!

High Five, It's Friday!!

Doing some blog hopping today:

The Blog Entourage

I'm SOOOO glad it's Friday. So so glad. I love Friday. Have I mentioned I'm really happy it's Friday?

When people ask me what "plans" I have for the weekend, I realize what I tell them may be a bit disappointing.... but it's exactly what I want to be doing:
- Cleaning and organizing around the house
- Reading a new book I just got

- Having movie night with my husband (the closest thing to a date night we get these days)
- Working out
- Doing my meal prep for next week
- Taking one, maybe two, naps
- Probably doing some parenting in there as well.

What are you up to this weekend? Hope it's something fun. Yes, naps are considered fun in my opinion!

Oh, and any ideas for movie night? We'll be Redboxing it.. but I don't even know what's out right now.

Happy Friday!

High Five 5 Things Blog Hopping Friday of Awesomeness!

Happy High Five Friday! Here's your High Five!

Seriously- I can't believe it's Friday again. This week went by fast. Time didn't pass this quickly when I was younger. You know, before the Internet. When we didn't have cell phones. Or DVR. (Wow, I think I just aged 10 years while writing that).
"And we liked it!"

I'm participating in some awesome Friday hops today, so check them out. If you're new WELCOME! Please comment so I can follow you back! If you're NOT new, WELCOME to you too! I love everyone ;-)

Life As I See It [Fitness, Health and Happiness]

In the celebration of some horrifying foods I've recently learned about, I decided this weeks 5 things should be "5 Things You Should Probably Never Eat. Ever." You'll see:

1. Fried Butter

O.M.G.

So, this is the next new thing at the Iowa State Fair. I'm just horrified.

2. The KFC Double Down/Krispy Kreme Sandwich
Source
So, the KFC Double Down is apparently two pieces of fried chicken (where bread would normally be), two different kinds of cheese, bacon, and the "special sauce"... In this monstrosity, a Krispy Kreme Donut is added to the outer layers (where bread should be... again). Holy moly. Please don't ever eat this.

3. Nutella Ice Cream Sandwiches
Really, I just included this one to make a point. Recently, a woman sued Nutella for not actually being as nutritious as the commercials would have you believe. I believe she lost. One of the points made was that you can spread a little Nutella on some whole grain bread and have a snack that's perfectly fine. It's just if you eat the entire jar or make Nutella Ice Cream Sandwiches- well, that's NOT healthy. So don't do it.

4. The Pork Parfait

The Pork Parfait consists of pulled pork, mashed potatoes and barbeque sauce. Ew.

5. Devil's Food Cake Mix

Now, I've got to admit: The rest of these were pretty disgusting to me. But this one, although it's outrageous, is a little tempting. Here are the details:

"A buttermilk cake using 2 Bags of Reeses topped with a frosting made from 1/2 cup of peanut butter, dark chocolate and heavy cream garnished with Reeses Peanut Butter Cups". (from here)

So, there you have it.

Here's my question of the day: What is the most OUTRAGEOUS food item you've ever heard of? Should it be on this list?

Have a great weekend!

Weird Wednesday..

Happy Awesomeday!

Source

Rather than a coherent, well-written blog post, I've decided to just list some random stuff in the order it appears in my brain.... because that's how I roll (today, at least).

However, I will number the stuff, just to give the illusion that it is somewhat organized.

1. Matt Damon is kind of cool. As the mom of a boy, I think it's great that he's there to support his mom. It's a good man that loves his mother.

2. I spent two days at home with my kids. They drove me nuts. But I miss them desperately at work today.
Who, us? We're harmless. What are you talking about...
3. So, this new weight training program I'm doing at home is kind of cool. I'm feeling all kinds of DOMS (which is how I measure the success of a workout, of course). The only thing is- eventually I either have to move to the gym or get more weights/a squat rack. The highest weight I can lift over my head is 55 pounds, and I know I'll want to squat more than that (for now, as I'm learning to "full squat", that's just plenty).

4. I was reminded of the awesomeness of this song earlier today, and posted it on Sarah Fitness.

It's amazing how a song can totally take me back: cassette tapes, my Girbaud jeans... do you have a song like that? (p.s. I don't feel old at all. Nope.)

5. I'm doing a fun Facebook Hop today, but for some reason, it won't let me put the HTML here. I'm a little tech-illiterate, but I'm pretty sure I'm doing this one right. Anyway, here's the link: Wacky Wednesday.

High Five 5 Things Blog Hopping Friday!

Happy Friday! Here's your HIGH FIVE!

It doesn't seem like a whole week has gone by since last Friday... and yet it has.

This has been a rough week in some ways. I made my workout plan on Sunday. I followed it until about noon on Wednesday. But, I'm okay with that. Live and learn, right? I will take all of this into account when I make next week's plan...

I'm participating in my favorite Blog Hops today. Please join in and comment if you're new. Actually, I really just want everyone to comment. This is why I ask you questions :-) We share, we get to know each other. It's a good thing.

Life As I See It [Fitness, Health and Happiness]

Today's 5 Questions:

I am asking you to list 5 ways that working out has improved your life. And, here are mine:

1. I am a big help when people are moving.
2. I  have the endurance AND strength to carry a screaming 3 year old through the grocery store.
3. I don't freak out when I have to park the car far away from my building at work
4. Whenever I get my blood pressure or cholesterol checked, medical professionals compliment me on how "perfect" my numbers are.
5. That feeling after a good workout, when you feel like you can do anything? Yeah, I love that.

How about you guys?

Oh, and since I'm not above using my children's cuteness to entertain you, here's my son. Both of his parents are musicians. Can you tell?

Now that you've seen that... can you do me a favor? Hop on over to Sarah Fitness and click "Like". We are almost to 400 fans!

Have a great weekend, folks!!

High Five Harry Potter Fever Friday!

Happy Friday! Here's your high five!
I am so proud to be a giant nerd.
So, as you may have read, I haz the Harry Potter fever.

In fact, I even found one more Harry Potter-themed pic:
Instead of the normal "Five Question Friday", you know I have to stick with this theme until everyone goes completely insane...

1. Are you seeing Harry Potter this weekend, or have you seen it by now?
My husband and I are hoping to find a sitter and go see it tomorrow. We've done this with every Harry Potter movie. Well, we used to go to midnight showings, then we became grown ups.

2. Has a Harry Potter book release ever interfered with an important event in your life?
Why, yes. Yes, it has.

The fifth book was released on June 21, 2003. This also happened to be the day I got married.

[If I could find any wedding pictures, they would go here].

I stood in line at midnight after the rehearsal, and got my copy. I went back to the hotel room I was staying in and did my best to read as much as I could. But, darn it, I was tired.

That next day I tried to read but was just too busy :-)

However, our car broke down in the desert on our honeymoon, which would normally be tragic, but I was so glad it *finally* gave me a chance to read...

3. Okay, I won't ask any more Harry Potter questions. Let's talk fitness. What was your last workout?
This morning, I did "High and Tight" from Brazil Butt Lift. OMG. It was like all the floorwork I loved so much in the old Firms. I am going to hurt tomorrow, and I love it. Running later, at the track, so hopefully I'll have a fun story about Rudey McRude tonight...

4. What are your plans for the weekend?
Well, I am doing the usual: Making a large to-do list to catch up on housework, then doing about half of it before deciding a nap would be more fun. And, as mentioned before, we are *really* hoping to go see a certain film..

5. Tell me something cool about yourself.
Since I constantly talk about myself, this is no problem for me. I do it all the time, so I won't be participating. But, I really want to hear about *you*. Brag a little!

Also, I'm participating in my favorite Friday Blog Hop today:

Life As I See It [Fitness, Health and Happiness]

So, if you're new, WELCOME! Please leave a comment!

My good friend Stacie at "Love You Always and Forever" (how many of you sing that song when you read that title? Or, am I dating myself?) is starting Beachbody's Insanity program today. I'm going to help coach her through it..

She will be blogging about it, so I wanted to give you all the chance to follow her blog as she writes about her adventure:

If you've never heard of Insanity, here's a little bit about it:

And hey, if you like that, there's a sequel that just came out... so you can keep working!
