Fear...

“The greatest barrier to success is the fear of failure.” ~Sven Goran Eriksson

I'm a little scared of this picture.

Do you have fears? Some fears are completely rational... like fear of a tornado when one has been spotted in your neighborhood. I personally have a mildly irrational completely rational fear of dogs after being bitten quite badly by a dog on a run.
Blood on my Nikes..
But I want to talk about a different kind of fear: The fear that keeps you from reaching your goals. The fear that keeps you from trying new things. The fear of failure/rejection that holds you back.

What is your biggest fear?

When it comes to realizing a dream, what is your fear? What keeps holding you back?

I want you to really, REALLY think about it.

Is it fear of failure? Fear of rejection? Fear of embarrassment?

Okay, I think I have the answer.

Here's what you do:
Step 1: Imagine the scenario where the absolute worst thing happens.

For example: In my senior year of high school, I liked a boy. I was terrified, but I sent him a secret valentine in French. I actually walked him behind one of my *friends (you know, one of those girls that you know but don't quite trust in high school?) translating it and telling him she thought it was from me. They laughed at me. I ran off and felt really embarrassed.

But, I look back 20 years later and realize: I survived. I wasn't physically hurt. I moved away and forgot that boy (I honestly don't even remember what his name was). And I'm also pretty proud of that 17 year old girl for taking a risk.

So, are you thinking about the worst that could happen? If it doesn't involve someone getting physically injured or killed, it's probably not as bad as you thought.

Step 2: Take action!

Have you ever heard this saying?

"Do the thing that scares you, and the fear will go away."

I promise there's something to it.

Are you ready to face your fear? If you are, and are ready to share, let us know in the comments...

Hey Sarah! Thanks so much for stopping by! I'm following you back! :) I'm so jealous you are a runner! I'm trying to get back into running but it's hard since it's been a while! One day I'll get back to there.

A similar thing happened to me at prom like your valentine! I had the biggest crush on this boy that was one of my good friends until he started hanging out with the "snobby" crowd. Well at prom I asked him to dance thinking I could finally tell him how I felt only to have them all laugh at me and I found out later that he was dating the head of the snobs! Ughhh....I still get embarrassed thinking about it but my hubby is way hotter so maybe next year if I go to my 10 year reunion I'll walk in with my arm candy! LOL :)

Sarah as long as you love running too, I don't care how fast or slow you are! It means you GET it! Running is IT.

I have been bitten by a dog before while running too. It is terrifying! It has happened to me twice, both times drew blood and led to big bruises (which was a surprise). Both times, the owner was within a few yards (once the dog was ON A LEASH and they let it attack me, the other time the owner was in her garden and the dog on the sidewalk).

Now when I see a dog while running, I do freak the eff out. Which is too bad. I adore dogs.

Fear can be absolutely crippling. Thanks for the encouragement to move out of it!

Following back!

I am following you back and I am a runner too. My running fear is snakes. We moved to North Florida last year and I love to run on a road with farms - horses, cows and snakes. I was seeing about 1 snake a week. They have been gone for the winter.
